Weekend Getaways from Delhi 2026 | 15 Best Places Within 300 km

Delhi is extraordinary, but it’s also relentless. The traffic, the noise, the scale of it — after a few weeks, even the most devoted Delhi residents feel the urge to leave. And Delhi, perhaps more than any other Indian city, is positioned at the centre of an incredible variety of escape options: Himalayan hill stations in one direction, Rajasthan’s desert in another, the wildlife corridors of Uttarakhand, and the heritage corridors of Haryana and UP.

Here are the 15 best weekend getaways from Delhi, organised by distance and type.

Within 100 km: Quick Escapes

Neemrana Fort Palace, Rajasthan (121 km): A magnificently restored 15th-century fort converted into a heritage hotel. Even if you don’t stay here (though you should), the fort café and zip-lining experience across the ravine are worth the drive. Best for couples and history enthusiasts.

Sariska Tiger Reserve, Rajasthan (200 km): One of the closest tiger reserves to Delhi. Morning safaris offer excellent chances of spotting tigers, leopards, and spotted deer. The adjacent Sariska Palace is a beautiful place to base yourself.

Morni Hills, Haryana (90 km): Haryana’s only hill station — modest by Himalayan standards but a pleasant drive through the Shivalik foothills. Two lakes, a fort, and complete quiet on weekdays.

100-200 km: The Sweet Spot

Rishikesh and Haridwar (250 km): The classic Delhi escape. Drive or train to Haridwar, attend the evening Ganga Aarti, then move to Rishikesh for the morning. Yoga, rafting, and rooftop cafes for the rest of the weekend. Train from Delhi to Haridwar takes about 4-5 hours.

Agra (200 km): Yes, it’s a tourist circuit, but the Taj Mahal at sunrise genuinely never gets old. Stay overnight to catch it in golden hour evening light too. Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri complete a genuinely world-class heritage weekend.

Nainital (300 km): The classic Kumaon lake town. The boat lake, Mall Road, Snow View Point, and the surrounding oak and rhododendron forests are all beautiful. 6-7 hour drive from Delhi; overnight bus or direct train are comfortable alternatives.

Lansdowne, Uttarakhand (250 km): One of the most peaceful hill towns in Uttarakhand, pleasantly free of the commercialism that’s taken over Mussoorie and Nainital. Garhwal Rifles regimental museum, Bhulla Lake, Tarkeshwar Mahadev forest — an ideal quiet weekend.

200-300 km: Full Weekend Adventures

Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand (260 km): India’s most famous tiger reserve and the oldest national park. Morning and afternoon safaris from Dhikala or Bijrani zone. Excellent luxury jungle lodges available (Rivermead, Jim’s Jungle Retreat). Book safari slots months in advance for peak season (November to June).

Pushkar, Rajasthan (400 km): A bit beyond the 300 km rule but absolutely worth it for a meaningful Rajasthani weekend. The sacred lake, the only Brahma temple in India, camel rides at sunset, and the famous Pushkar Lake ghats. Drive or overnight train to Ajmer then cab.

Jaisalmer (750 km): For those who want to push further — a full weekend or short break rather than a day trip. The golden sandstone fort city, Sam Sand Dunes camel safari, and overnight desert camp are extraordinary. Overnight Vande Bharat Express from Delhi recommended.

Chakrata, Uttarakhand (330 km): One of Uttarakhand’s least-known cantonment towns. Tiger Falls (one of India’s highest) and the old British-era architecture make this a beautiful offbeat alternative to overrun hill stations. Permit required at entry.

Tips for Delhi Weekend Trips

Leave Friday evening to beat peak traffic. Delhi’s exit roads (NH-48 to Jaipur/Rajasthan, NH-334 to Haridwar/Rishikesh, NH-44 to Agra) get significantly congested on Saturday mornings. A 9 PM Friday departure can be quicker than a 7 AM Saturday start.

For hill stations: check road conditions during monsoon and winter. NH-58 to Rishikesh and the Mussoorie roads can close after heavy snowfall. Keep an NDRF helpline number saved.

Overnight trains beat driving for 300+ km destinations. The Shatabdi Express (Delhi-Dehradun, Delhi-Chandigarh) and various overnight expresses save hotel night costs and deliver you rested and at the destination by morning.

Book accommodation on Thursday at the latest for popular weekend destinations. Rishikesh, Nainital, and Sariska in particular see near-total bookings by Friday afternoon during peak months.

Whatever direction you go from Delhi, the city is never more than a few hours behind you. And having the right weekend escape in your calendar makes coming back on Monday morning significantly more bearable.
